FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As a parent my time for sport is limited; how long will I spend at baseball games and how long will my child be in the sun during summer?

T-Ball and 3-pitch games are scheduled to last approximately 1.5 hours. Even older age groups in junior baseball are scheduled to last only 2 hours. Compared to other bat and ball games which go for up to 6 hours a day, baseball is a family friendly game.

My child already plays football or some other winter sport. How would my child be able to play another organised sport?

Baseball is a summer sport. A child is able to play soccer, rugby, hockey or AFL during winter and baseball during summer. Our Junior Baseball season starts after the September school holidays.

Baseball is not a mainstream sport in Australia. What development opportunities will my child have in baseball?

Baseball has State and national governing bodies - Baseball Queensland and Baseball Australia. This provides players at Pine Hills Lightning Baseball club the opportunity to represent at a regional level (Brisbane Metros), for Queensland (Bandits Juniors) and for Australia. Baseball Queensland also has the high performance Brisbane Bandits Baseball Academy.

Baseball is not a mainstream sport in Australia. What life opportunities will my child get from baseball?

Australia has many players in the American professional baseball leagues. Many Australian junior players have also secured baseball scholarships at US Colleges/Universities.

How big is Baseball at Pine Hills?

Pine Hills Lightning Baseball Club has around 250 members and teams throughout all age groups. Juniors start from age 6+ all the way through to Seniors.

For the (2017/18 season) the planned age groups are; Aussie T-Ball (U10) from age 6 +, T-Ball (U10- Little League Minors), Rookie Ball (U10- Little League), Major/ Minor Little League (U12), Junior (U14), Junior U16, Junior U18/ U20 and Seniors/Masters.

Our family budget is limited. How much will it cost for my child to play baseball?

Junior Baseball is a very cost effective sport for Boys and Girls to play. See Pine Hills Lightning website www.pinehillslightning.baseball.com.au for more information and club contact details.

Major Club Fundraising Opportunity

Pine Hills Lightning Baseball Club has been given a unique fundraisng opportunity by SoundDec.

SoundDec (Sound Decisions) is an audio solutions provider at major sporting events throughout the world and creator of the patented SoundDec© earwig Radio.  Their aim is to enhance spectator experience through an earpiece radio at various major sport events by giving the general public the opportunity to listen to three top commentary teams, Channel 9 TV, ABC Grandstand and Fairfax Radio.

SoundDec has given our baseball club the opportunity to be a part of selling these earwig radios to the general public at the Australia v Pakistan Test Match (5 Days - Thursday 15th December to Monday 19th December) and the Australia v Pakistan One Day International (Friday 13th January 2017).

You can volunteer to be a part of this major fundraising event for the club with the benefits being twofold:

  1. The club will receive a percentage of each earwig radio sold at both events (5 day test match and one day international match)
  2. Volunteers will receive free entry into each day’s play to be enjoyed at the end of your selling shift (approx. 4 to 5 hours per day)
  • Volunteers will also receive a $10 Pine Hills canteen voucher for each day you volunteer

To volunteer, you must be 15 years of age or over (this can also be a parent with a child), be at the Gabba by 7.30am each morning and be prepared to walk around the entrances of the Gabba selling these radios.  You can nominate to participate for all or as many days as you want.  Volunteers will be provided with a shirt, cap and backpack containing the radios which must be returned to SoundDec at completion of the day.

The club requires 8-10 people for each day (six days in total) so don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to fundraise for the club and enjoy the cricket.

Please indicate your commitment to volunteer for this major fundraising event by registering your details in the link below:

https://www.volunteersignup.org/Q4MRY

More information will be provided to volunteers closer to the event.

Thank you for your continued support for our club.

Big shout out to Paul Hardie and BJ Ball Papers for covering the unexpected cost of a late season need for more game balls. In our last regular season weekend of games we had run out of balls and Paul through BJ Ball Papers offered to pay for this purchase. This is on top of BJ Balls on going sponsorship of Game balls. Thanks for helping out the club.
