Pine Hills Lightning Baseball Club still has vacancies in our Litle League (U12), Rookie Ball (U10) and TeeBall (U8) age groups.
It is very important for our club to support the development of umpires and so Pine Hills is working with the Queensland Baseball Umpires Association (QBUA) to assist in training and developing our umpires.
To this end experienced QBUA umpires (Blues) will be at the u14 and u16 development games on 29 August and 12 September respectively. The intent will be to have our club umpires do a couple of innings then get instant feedback from the Blues on the night.
The QBUA has also offered to come to the club on Tuesday night's on a monthly basis to run umpire training sessions. These sessions would include a classroom based theory component (in the Bunya Sports Club) and a practical session (working in with the Seniors training).
If you are interested in participating in any of these development opportunities please let David Everett know by email to David Everett. For the u14 development game we will need to know interest by 22 August. For the u16 and monthly training sessions we will need to know interest by 29 August.
If you want to know more detail please phone David Everett on 0402 893 722.
We are looking for families who are able to help with accommodation for these players, even if only for a short time. (Maybe a month)
After taking the lead in a marathon 3 hour 11 inning Gold Medal game, Met North were forced to forfeit to perennial rivals South Coast as they had run out of pitchers. Congratulations to all the Pine Hills Juniors who played in the team and to Ryan Woodrow for making Shadow for the Qld Squad that will play an invitational series in Sydney later this year.
The club will be holding a working bee from 9:00am until lunch time on 31/08/2014 to prepare the facilities for the coming season. The more members turn up ready to work, the quicker we will be finished and can enjoy a BBQ and a cold drink.
From L - R: Tom Kiliwnik, Zac McIver, Brock Preston, Ryan Woodrow, Olivia Stevens.

A number of previously advertised positions have been filled, but we are still looking for an Assistant Major A Coach, Pitching Coach and AAA Coach for the coming season.

Could you please forward the following information to your teams?
We only have one precious full sized diamond for all members of our club to use for training. There are also many requests for use of our field from other organisations, such as BQ coaching & umpiring clinics, Rams & Metro rep teams, touring invitational teams, and even the Bandits. At the start of the season, teams were allocated training times to help fit everyone in. We then manage other requests for field usage based on these training times.
Any requests for changes to training times, or for additional sessions, even if only one off or short term, must be sent to Shannon Woodrow, so she can check there are no clashes with other training sessions or activities that have already been booked and confirmed. This also applies to any private coaching sessions organised with senior or import players. Whilst we have no issue with players working hard to improve their skills, we must show courtesy to our members who have already got use of the fields, and not inconvenience or impinge on their booked time.
Of course it goes without saying that anyone who uses the field & bullpens also has a responsibility to repair & tidy them after use - deco must be screeded, the footholes filled in on the mounds (infield & bullpens), and in the batters box, and the mound & plate area must be covered with the available tarps and weighted down so they don't blow off. This is most important during the summer storm season, to reduce the risk of unplayable fields & unnecessary washouts on game days.
Thanks for your co-operation & courtesy in following this procedure.
